Box Office: Moviegoers Commit to The Vow, Safe House Starts Solid

The Vow It was a record-breaking weekend at the box office, as four major new releases each took in more than $20 million apiece for the first time on a non-holiday weekend. Moviegoers happily committed to The Vow, starring Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum, according to Box Office Mojo. The weepy romantic drama grossed an estimated $41.7 million. Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington's action film, Safe House, stole second with $39.3 million. Box office: Chronicle edges out The Woman in Black for top spot An action film for the younger crowd, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, came in at No. 3, digging up $27.5 million. The latest classic Hollywood blockbuster to get the 3D treatment - the reissue of Stars Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace - beamed in $23 million. Last week's top film, Chronicle, completed the top 5 with $12.3 million. At No. 6, The Woman in Black scared up $ 10.3 million. The Grey ranked seventh with $5.1 million. Rounding out the top 10: Big Miracle (No. 8, $3.9 million), The Descendants (No. 9, $3.5 million) and Underworld: Awakening (No. 10, $2.5 million).
