A Few Things About the First Trailer - and First Rumors - for Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
This week’s edition of Oscar Index made the point of allowing for Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close as an awards contender on paper, while withholding any specific hype until we’d all seen at least a trailer. Hours later, that trailer arrived. But even more interesting than the footage therein? How about the test-screening gossip trickling out around Stephen Daldry’s magic-realist 9/11 tearjerker? [Warning: Spoilers ahead.] First off, here’s the new trailer, which debuted Wednesday night: Meanwhile, over at In Contention, Kristopher Tapley passes along the reaction of a viewer who writes that Max von Sydow — the Swedish icon presently in the seventh decade of his screen career — is perhaps the deep cast’s front-runner for an acting nomination: “[Von Sydow’s character] lost his ability to speak in Germany during WW2. […] He has the words ‘yes’ and ‘no’ tattooed on his palms and wears a notepad around his neck. It’s a very expressive performance, lots of interesting shrugs and expressions. He accompanies the boy on his journeys around the city and plays an important role in his healing. “I’m not spoiling anything here, but an important element in the film are the voice messages the father leaves on the family answering machine while trapped in the tower. The camera is on von Sydow listening to [these] final messages. It’s a little master class in reacting.” Coincidentally, that’s the exact same feedback I heard from another viewer who saw another test screening in NY. Declining to be quoted directly, the viewer supplied other feedback as well: · It’s well-acted: While Tom Hanks and newcomer Thomas Horn are strong, the consensus in the room was that Sandra Bullock and silent von Sydow were the standouts most likely to receive awards-season recognition (both in the Supporting categories). · It’s sad: The viewer virtually choked up recounting story elements and sequences to me, mostly addressing the relationship between Hanks and Bullock. · It’s too soon: Among the NYers who’d resided here during the 9/11 attacks, the film’s current introduction — which features falling bodies, crushing thuds, and other vividly horrifying reminders of the initial scene at the World Trade Center — was less emotionally affecting than just inappropriate. The other viewers seemed to defer to the minority. Expect cuts? · It’s long: The viewer estimated the current running time around two-and-a-half hours. Again, expect cuts? Anyway, there you have it. But, physically getting them in to the show -- calculating who the greatest super fan from the OMAs is and providing them with their very own award -- we're not only doing lip plan to 'by the fans but for the fans,' but really allowing them to control the reigns and drive this artistically. NBC Buys 2 Drama Projects From Dick Wolf
EXCLUSIVE: Dick Wolf’s Universal TV-based production company is having an active development season under new scripted development executive Danielle Gelber. Last month, NBC bought a firefighter drama from feature writers Michael Brandt and Derek Haas. Now I’ve learned that Wolf Films has set up 2 more hourlong projects at NBC — one from The L Word creator Ilene Chaiken and one from former Smallville executive producers Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer — that put a twist on two classic franchises, medical and cop drama. In addition to the writers, each show is executive produced by Wolf, Wolf Films president Peter Jankowski and Gelber. The untitled Ilene Chaiken project centers on a lesbian couple who are doctors at an inner-city Philadelphia hospital. The Slavkin/Swimmer project is a high-tech character-driven procedural about investigators who go into the memory banks of murder victims in order to solve the crimes. This is the second sale this development season for Chaiken, who spent the past 8 years at Showtime working on her drama The L Word and its reality offshoot. A character-driven procedural she is writing and executive producing with Joel Silver landed at CBS last week with a put pilot commitment. Swimmer and Slavkin spent 7 years on Smallville, rising to executive producers. They most recently worked on ABC’s No Ordinary Family.Watch X-Men: First Class

Hugh Hefner: 10 Truths Behind the Playboy Legend
Few men have been as mythologized in their own time as Hugh Hefner. But, as with any flesh and blood person, there's a difference between the fantasy and the reality and as THR's executive features editor Stephen Galloway discovered during his time at the Playboy Mansion, sometimes the dissonance can be shocking.our editor recommendsHugh Hefner: The Playboy InterviewHugh Hefner Takes Playboy Private'Playboy Club': Gloria Steinem Advocates Boycott of NBC SeriesHugh Hefner Announces Engagement to 24-Year-Old Playmate Via Twitter Hugh Hefner Reveals Age He Lost Virginity in NY Times 'The Playboy Club' Showrunner: 'There's a Perception of the Show That's False'The Playboy Club: TV Review Galloway spent time with Hefner at his weekly movie night and in his legendary bedroom and came away with some totally unexpected insights. Here are 10 surprising revelations from this week's THR cover story: 1. EVEN AT AGE 85, HEFNER CAN STILL HAVE A (VERY) ACTIVE SEX LIFE "We had sex once a week," Hefner says of his ex-fiancee, 25-year-old Crystal Harris. "We had sex with her and a girlfriend. We had sex the first night that we met, with another girl, and it was such a nice relationship that I kept them both over for a weekend." 2. HEFNER AND GLORIA STEINEM ALMOST DATED These days, the feminist activist is more likely to be criticizing the Playboy founder (in fact she called the NBC series The Playboy Club a "net minus") but back in the day, Hefner says they had a much warmer relationship. "Gloria and I go back a long ways," he notes wryly of the woman who went undercover as a bunny then wrote about her experience, "but it's more personal than you probably know. She worked as Girl Friday for Harvey Kurtzman, who created Mad magazine, and he said, 'You gotta meet this girl, she's just like you: She can make a guy jump through hoops.' We actually exchanged phone calls and came very close to dating." PHOTOS: Hollywood Haunts: Then and Now 3. THE PLAYBOY EDITOR WOULD RATHER SCRAPBOOK THAN WRITE ABOUT HIMSELF Hefner spent more than a decade working on his memoirs before abandoning them altogether. However, he has continued to scrapbook his life. Today he has a collection of 2,485 volumes of scrapbooks. It's a stunning archive detailing almost every aspect of his life, done with a deliberateness that indicates Hefner knew early on he wanted a legacy. It contains the good, the bad and the ugly: photos of Hefner at the beginning of Playboy, which he started in Chicago in 1953 after scraping together a few thousand dollars for a magazine that would have been called Stag Party if the title hadn't been taken; a copy of the famous nude Marilyn Monroe photo that graced the first issue, which sold 54,000 copies; critical articles about the death of Dorothy Stratten, a Playmate of the Year who was shot to death in August 1980 by her estranged husband, Paul Snider; and, somewhat weirdly, a psychologist's assessment of her lover, director Peter Bogdanovich - a scathing Hefner critic - whose origins not even the archivist can explain. PHOTOS: The Hollywood Reporter Cover Stories Gallery 4. HEFNER'S BEDROOM IS A MESS Old magazines and papers litter the floor all around his giant, king-size bed, with its kilim-style comforter. There are notes on an upcoming movie he will screen at one of his famed movie nights; pages from his magazine; a NY Times book review and wads of documents only Hefner could possibly identify. It's an intimate window into one man's unvarnished id, and at odds with his empire's sexual theme: Two couches are covered with hundreds of stuffed toys; there's a mantelpiece highlighting Frankenstein heads and a framed replica of a toy gun he had as a child; the whole place is crammed with relics from his past. "I can be at my most creative like this," Hefner explains. PHOTOS: Lost Homes of Hollywood 5. THE MAN WHO DATED 'THE GIRLS NEXT DOOR' MAY PREFER BLONDES, BUT HIS HEART LIES WITH A BRUNETTE His tastes then and now veer toward women who remind him of the movie stars he loved growing up, such as Alice Faye, though he currently favors blondes. "Picasso had his pink period and his blue period; I'm in my blonde period," he quips, though the woman who got closest to him, Barbi Benton, was a brunette. None of them was his intellectual match. "I'm not looking for a competitor," he says. "I'm looking for a partner -- a romantic partner." 6. WHILE PLAYBOY'S DOMESTIC FORTUNES SHRINK, THE MAGAZINE FLOURISHES WORLDWIDE Playboy Enterprises Inc. lost $51.3 million in 2009. Ad pages have shrunk by over half in the last decade and its circulation has dropped from a high of 7 million to 1.5 million. But in just the past year, Playboy has added three international editions to its previous 28. Playboy Enterprises CEO Scott Flanders says the American version of the magazine "loses a small amount," but that Playboy makes money from its international print operations. STORY: Hugh Hefner: A History of Romance 7. PLAYMATE AND EX-FIANCEE CRYSTAL HARRIS CRIED TO HEFNER AFTER TALKING ABOUT THEIR SEX LIFE ON HOWARD STERN'S SHOW "I was very surprised," he admits. "She was talking about a third person I didn't recognize. She felt very badly about it afterwards. She came over and wept. You know, she's the one that wanted to get married, not me. But I think that Crystal is more than one person; she's kind of lost at the center and was overwhelmed by the relationship, and got caught up in an affair while we were going together that I knew nothing about." As to the way they parted: "There was no disappointment in terms of not getting married -- it's the disappointment of the relationship going south," he says. "It wasn't that I wanted to be married; what I wanted was continuity. But I misread the signs." VIDEO: Hugh Hefner's Ex, Crystal Harris, Spoofs Their Age Difference 8. HEFNER DOESN'T TALK ABOUT DEATH He hardly ever talks about death, a close colleague says: "Even when [a longtime assistant] died, after the memorial, he never mentioned her again." Is he afraid of the prospect? "No," insists Hefner, an agnostic who professes no faith in any afterlife. "My mother lived to 101." 9. PLAYBOY HAS NO SUCCESSION PLAN SHOULD HEFNER PASS AWAY When asked about the succession plan, Flanders gives an agonizing pause. Finally he says: "That's hard to imagine. [There's] no succession plan." Hefner's own hopes that one of his two younger sons -- Marston, 21, and Cooper, 20 (with Conrad; he has an older son as well as Christie, 58, with his first wife) -- might take over seem unfounded. "At one point, I expected it to be a family thing," he admits, "but that's been squandered." He rephrases the wording. "I don't think that's in the cards anymore." Both boys are still in college and neither has yet had Hefner's daughter Christie's experience of joining PEI as a junior executive before climbing to the top. 10. HE GETS LETTERS FROM WOMEN AROUND THE WORLD WANTING TO BE HIS GIRLFRIEND When girls apply, Hefner checks out their pictures and invites some to visit. Those he likes remain. "I'm obviously a visual person, and looks and appearance are important, but it's pretty obvious also that I have a particular type," he acknowledges. Does he not think these women may partly be lured by his money and power? "Of course," he says. "But what is anybody really attracted to?" Teaser Trailer For 1911 Online
Jackie Chan is revolting!Marking both the hundredth anniversary of the Xinghai Revolution, and the hundredth movie for its director and star, a trailer for Jackie Chan's historical epic 1911 has just arrived online over at Apple. It's Chan's first film as director since 1998 (although he shared behind-the-camera duties with Zhang Li), and co-stars Chan's son Jaycee, Li Bingbing, Winston Chao and Joan Chen. Chan plays Huang Xing, the revolutionary leader and eight fingered general , who, through a series of violent uprisings, was instrumental in overthrowing the Quing Dynasty and establishing China as a republic. It's unusually serious stuff for the generally knockabout Chan, but on the evidence of the clip, all the better for it. Clearly a labour of love for the director, six months of punishing production finally wrapped in March this year. 1911 will open the Tokyo International Film Festival on October 22, and gets a North American release (in its full form, unlike John Woo's superficially similar Red Cliff) on October 12. Directed, put together by Cemil Agacikoglu. With: Turgay Aydin, Gorken Yeltan, Elena Polyanskaya, Ayten Uncuoglu, Mete Domezer, Serkan Keskin.A mood piece in the minor key, "September" traces the modification in the marriage triggered having a wife's mysterious illness. As her body betrays her, cutting her breath short, she turns inward and from her husband who cannot bridge the widening gap. Based on empty spaces, diminishing light and silences, Turkish digital digital photographer-switched-helmer Cemil Agacikoglu's debut feature limns the husband's sense of superfluity and recently found vulnerability toward another lady positively seeking his help. Missing the scope of countryman Nuri Bilge Ceylan's mournful walkabouts, "September" nonetheless reps a fundamental fest-bound find. Yusuf (Turgay Aydin), an easy, introverted goldsmith, cannot sufficiently reassure his sick, frightened wife, Asli (Gorken Yeltan). He goes from sitting silently by her hospital bed mattress to winding gold strips inside the workshop above his boss' jewelry store, to pacing his empty apartment, to finally ferrying his wife to her home village once she regains strength. Meanwhile, Asli's youthful Russian wardmate (Elena Polyanskaya), beaten by her wealthy protector and needing sanctary, calls Yusuf, who finds her hotels. The River Used to Be a Man
A Rohfilm production in association with SWR and Debut Im Britten. (International sales: Rohfilm, Berlin.) Produced by Benny Drechsel, Karsten Stoter, Jan Zabeil. Executive producer, Catherine Bode. Directed by Jan Zabeil. Screenplay, Zabeil, Alexander Fehling. With: Alexander Fehling, Sariqo Sakega, Babotsa Sax'twee, Obusentswe Deamar Manyma, Nx'apa Motswai. (English dialogue)The River Used to Be a Man" fits loosely in the tradition of past solo-survival tales from "The Naked Prey" through "Into the Wild" and "127 Hours," but with a more detached, cerebral approach that is intriguing, if not for everyone. Conceived by lead thesp Alexander Fehling, who co-wrote with first-time feature director Jan Zabeil, this arrestingly spare feature follows a German traveler whose tour of an unnamed South African nation turns harrowing when he loses his guide. Pic is a wild card in commercial terms but could conceivably reward adventuresome distribs in niche play. Long, silent prologue follows the film's nameless protagonist (Fehling, "Goethe!") as he drives day and night into an alien rural landscape, at one point seemingly crashing into cattle, but without harm. Arriving at a riverbank, he leaves his SUV and, either by arrangement or accident, hires an elderly fisherman (Sariqo Sakega) to take him for a boat ride, though he sleeps through most of it. They make camp some miles away and, after they've exchanged the few words of English they share, the 30-ish tourist explains he's an actor. This seems utterly meaningless to his host, who cryptically explains they are now guests "on the land of all the animals," vulnerable to possible attack by an angry elephant or hungry other creature. Come morning, the tourist has seemingly had enough of the exoticism and isolation he appeared to crave. But it turns out that his companion has, simply and without violence, expired during the night. Fighting panic as well as natural elements that seemed a whole lot easier for the late boatsman to deal with, he searches lookalike marshes and empty dwellings for any signs of habitation. Narrative turns into a ghost story of sorts as Fehring's character, by now disoriented enough to find anything logical, must lay to rest the spirit of the man who died in his company, lest that unburied soul walk the land to harm loved ones. More akin to Gus Van Sant's "Gerry" (if not quite as challenging) or some of Herzog's fiction odysseys than the aforementioned mainstream features, "The River Used to Be a Man" hardly exploits suspense or supernatural elements in any conventional fashion. Nor does it ask us to identify with the lead as an Everyman; Fehring holds attention throughout with an understated yet charismatic performance, but the character's circumstances and motivations remain a closed book. Ending leaves myriad questions dangling. While those qualities will doubtless frustrate the literal-minded, Zabeil, Fehring and the skeletal crew (Jakub Bejnarowicz is the excellent d.p.) provide others with a hypnotic cipher that casts its spell slowly, yet without a wasted moment. Adding to the otherworldly tenor is the decision to omit any music, making us pay all the more attention to ambient location sounds.Camera (color, HD), Jakub Bejnarowicz; editor, Florian Miosge; sound, Anton Feist, Magnus Pfleuger, Uwe Bossenz; sound designer, Lars Ginzel. More Riddick Concept Art Online
Thanks to Vin Diesel.... Vin Diesel has began to really make it something of the habit to publish new idea art in the continuously developing third outing for his steely-eyed space hard nut Riddick. The most recent chunk produced through the new movie's artists is below for the looking pleasure. Published as always on Diesel's Facebook page, the artwork is supported by among the actor's usual happy, passionate missives..."Concept art and key frames allow a production to understand more about options before really carrying out to film. The method to the R rating, that lots of you had been vocal about, is a lengthy one. The benefit however, (never empower the disadvantages) was that people were permitted a very extensive pre-production process. The artwork is really good, the performers have really surpassed themselves in illustrating our planet at its initial phase. If this film involves the screen.... realize that you willed it into being!Haha.... I acquired two conferences today that I've been preparing for.... one using the director and the other one using the mind from the studio to go over casting and also the 2012 release date. Like always, I appreciate getting your voice contained in these conferences. "The art has indeed all been impressive to date, which latest, moody piece entitled The Ultimate Stand of Riddick certainly looks intriguing. With David Twohy once again managing matters, the brand new Riddick film seems to become striving in a 2012 release date, though unless of course it is a truly removed-lower production this time around, they may want to obtain a move ahead with shooting if they would like to hit movie theaters prior to the finish of the coming year...
Country singer Wilma Lee Cooper dies
Country singer Wilma Lee Cooper, whose tradition-based down-home style left a mark on bluegrass music, died Sept. 13 of natural causes in Sweetwater, Tenn. She was 90. Born Wilma Leigh Leary in Valley Head, West Virginia, Cooper sang with her family's gospel group the Leary Family in the '30s and '40s. She married the unit's fiddler Dale T. "Stoney" Cooper in 1941. The Coopers broke through in 1947 when they appeared on radio's popular WWVA Jamboree in Wheeling, West Virginia. They cut their first records the same year for the small Tennessee label Rich-R-Tone, which also released the first singles by bluegrass pioneers the Stanley Brothers. They were signed to Columbia from 1949-53, without success. The duo recorded with their band the Clinch Mountain Clan for the Hickory label in the '50s and '60s. Their biggest hits included "Big Midnight Special," a country arrangement of Lead Belly's "Midnight Special" (No. 4, 1959), a cover of countrypolitan singer-songwriter Don Gibson's "There's a Big Wheel" (No. 3, 1959) and a reading of the standard "Wreck On the Highway" (No. 8, 1961). The Coopers later briefly recorded for Decca and Starday. They joined Nashville's Grand Ole Opry in 1957, and performed on the popular WSM broadcast until Stoney Cooper's death in 1977. Wilma Lee later recorded as a soloist for the independent roots labels Rounder and Rebel. She retired after suffering a stroke in 2001. She is survived by her daughter Carol Lee, an Opry performer. Neil Patrick Harris: Guy while using miracle touch
From child star to Tony host, Neil Patrick Harris proves he is going to do everything.Harris in 'Doogie Howser, M.D.'Neil Patrick Harris in 'Smurfs'Dancing while hosting the 65th Annual Tony Honours. When actor Neil Patrick Harris accepts his star concerning the Hollywood Walk of Fame today, there's just a little part of him that will use a regret. Not in regards to the getting recognition, for this is one thing he's "very grateful for,Inch but about its positioning."I did so, once i was youthful, fantasize about eventually obtaining a star concerning the Walk of Fame, which i usually wanted it before Hollywood Miracle. That was magic shop, and there's one star that was never completed, that was blank, right as you're watching shop -- which a year ago shuttered, and doesn't exist any more,Inch the 38-year-old artist states sadly.Becoming an amateur magician and miracle devotee, Harris may serve as the best choice in the Academy of Magical Arts and since the host in the org's annual honours gala. It's among the myriad entertainment-related gigs that fill Harris' plate, for he's the man that could try everything, from starring on stage and screen in comedy, drama and musicals, to hosting such high-profile honours shows since the Emmys as well as the Tonys, doing clever voice-over work in addition to cleaning just like a "Risk" contestant."He really covers the whole gamut if this involves entertaining," states his longtime manager Booh Schut. "In my opinion most likely probably the most difficult factor if this involves career for Neil is identifying time for you to be employed in most places that he works extremely well. As they is actually good, literally, at everything."She's known Harris since he will be a eco-friendly teen, booking "Clara's Heart" as his first film after which it "Doogie Howser, M.D." -- the ABC series created by Steven Bochco and David E. Kelley that spanned four seasons and 97 episodes from 1989 to 1993 -- tv series and which launched his trajectory to the Walk of Fame."Neil is actually the identical, coming back compared to that age. His abilities, his talent, how smart he's, this type of nice guy he's, all reflect this type of terrific boy he was," she states. "And Neil has not been a Hollywoodite. He's been merely a regular guy, despite all his success. And he's never been attracted to any kind of glitzy existence. He's an very normal, regular guy within the private existence. That never changed while he was elevated."Harris credits numerous that to "my wonderful parents," in addition to confesses that part of that came from from Bochco, his boss on "Doogie Howser," as well as the guy he sights among his early mentors available.InchSteven Bochco was very, very helpful with manipulating the inflamed size my thoughts,Inch Harris states getting fun. "He was very apparent on the fact everyone was wanting there might be good success while using show, but your success would inevitably vanish. And oftentimes people will at the same time be disdainful of the success and may decide to kind of tear you lower. So he was very conscious of a Hollywood career is not just only one, uphill trajectory constantly. That was a great lesson personally.InchBochco recalls how Harris effectively sailed the frequently-rocky transition from child star to adult artist, with a few producer-director's help in route.InchFollowing 'Doogie,' Neil used to be an very, very youthful guy. He did an extremely smart factor then, as they was because type of awkward developmental period in early 20s which he used to be so associated with 'Doogie' he kind of walked from TV and started doing theater."That was really smart he was developing other capabilities. Which younger crowd coded in individuals days an authentic fascination with pointing, and so i formerly had him come and spend a while around after we i did so our shows. He was this type of passionate student in the business along with the skill from it. I merely always understood he'd mature in to a multi-gifted star."After which it there's the 2004 sleeper hit "Harold and Kumar Visit White-colored Castle," through which Harris (credited as Neil Patrick Harris) carried out off his Doogie character and developed the womanizing player which will feed into the CBS TV sitcom which will follow.Harris' current boss, "Generate An Earnings Met Your Mother" executive producer Pamela Fryman, adds another element for the Neil Patrick Harris success story."He works harder than anybody I realize. And every single component that he's asked for to accomplish, he doesn't just take a look, he produces it, he views it, he perfects it which he'll it,Inch she states. He's this crazy work ethic, I'm speaking about, here' am inside our seventh season, helping you to really phone it in, but that's not an option for him."Harris confesses that he's always felt essential to be successful, especially after he hit it large with "Doogie" while still within the teens. Probably because of getting experienced a somewhat effective tv series at this kind of youthful age, especially getting that title, I desired to make sure this didn't hold me back from ever working again," according to him. "I didn't wish it to whether it is was my a quarter-hour which i had been out. So there's a bit of drive inside me to reside one moment. It was not easy to do, particularly in individuals days.InchHe is produced out his devote the Hollywood pantheon by utilizing his agent Chris Schmidt and manager Schut, but all agree that creating a Neil Patrick Harris image or brand has not been part of their strategy."I have to honestly condition which i allow it to relaxation around the celebs,In . Harris states. "I realize I'd rather not spend considerable time in one medium. I buy slightly antsy but, hey, If only to complete theater. However were not very ferocious throughout my, say, 'Now I demand to accomplish this. And I will take action come hell or high water.' "A Few Things I may have is a superb manager together with an incredible agency that positively produces qc, to make sure that I don't just agree every single factor which comes my way. Oversaturation, In my opinion, can be a terrible place to become, so everyone is trying to create options in my account that are high-quality -- or that possess a good kitsch factor!"Plus, since Harris and also the partner, actor David Burtka, welcomed twins for his or her family in October 2010, Harris is trying to lessen just a little on his work."The idea now's to apparent his plate slightly, to make sure that he's more family time," Schut states. Survivor: South Pacific: 3 Reasons We Already Want to Vote the Vets Off the Island
Benjamin "Coach" Wade, Ozzy Lusth Blindside me once, shame on you. Blindside me twice, shame on me. Blindside me three times? That's what it's coming to on Survivor. The reality series comes back for Season 23 with two new returning favorites, Oscar "Ozzie" Musth and Benjamin "Coach" Wade, in tow. But after the success of Heroes vs. Villains in 2010 and "Boston Rob" Mariano's applauded Road to Redemption last spring, recruiting beloved former players for another tour of duty is becoming standard practice for the aging competition series. But is it really the right move? As much as we enjoy watching the Russell Hantz's and Jerri "Black Widow" Manthey's have to face (and sometimes apologize for) their past power moves and manipulations, are these familiar faces really adding to the game or detracting from it? We look at three reasons it's time to throw the vets' buffs in the fire once and all: Check out our fall preview for galleries, scoop, premiere calendars and more! 3. The newbies don't think for themselves. Yes, the whole point of introducing returning players is to throw a curveball in the rest of the contestants' pre-determined game plans and expectations. But it's not nearly as much fun watching the newbies tough out the almost 40-day shoot when they have one, or possibly even two, expert guides there to possibly hint at what's to come and what they should be doing. Russell helped his tribe in no such way, minus his two allies who were quickly plucked off after he left, but Boston Rob's entire nice-guy routine last season hinged on his appearance as the elder statesmen who knew just what to do, and wasn't afraid to share his wisdom in exchange for alliances. Granted, Boston Rob and Russell still had to adjust to redemption island along with everyone else, but their advantages in the game influenced not just their own game play, but everyone else in the cast, (and not necessarily in a good way.) Get a behind-the-scenes look at Survivor: South Pacific 2. How will the first-timers shine? One of the biggest reasons Survivor keeps bringing back veterans is the same reason it may be hurting its own franchise: star power. Yes, a familiar face not only gets rabid fans but also those fair-weather Survivor fans who need a big hook (redemption island), a hint of nostalgia, or both, to be enticed back. Next to the one-two punch of Ozzie and Coach, how are the 16 fresh-faced cast members supposed to find their time to shine? Redemption Island produced one breakout star next to Russell and Boston Rob, but don't think Phillip Sheppard didn't work for it. (Getting into racially charged arguments, wearing feathers on your head and doing it while practically baring all is no easy feat!). As long as returning players are in the game, it will always be that much harder to breed the next generation of Survivor fan favorites. And then who will be around to partake in the next All-Star edition (as evidenced by Colby Donaldson's underwhelming performance on Heroes vs. Villains, these kids aren't getting any younger). Meet the Survivor: South Pacific cast 1. Some veterans just repeat their past mistakes. As much as we would like to think that every returning player is smart enough to change his up game the second (or third, or fourth) time around, that is not always the case. Take legendary villain Russell, who returned for Redemption Island so soon after Heroes vs. Villains that he still had Samoa sand in his shoes. After the attention he received in Seasons 19 and 20, it seemed obvious he would need a new strategy for Season 22. Unfortunately, Russell tried to play the exact same game and not only wound up going home fairly early, but made for a boring addition to the cast. For every "Boston Rob" - who transforms from villain to sly nice guy - there are a few Russell's who are too cocky and stubborn to change things up. Survivor: South Pacific premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 8/7c on CBS. Are you excited Ozzie and Coach are back? Or are you over the returning vets? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

You do not have successful story without one.InchHart has utilized the web and social networking to his advantage, from time to time reacting to a lot of of his two million-plus fans on Twitter, together with interactions on Facebook and live chat through the site Ustream. So, I am just looking to get my hands onto it early."Ultimately, Hart really wants to build his brand beyond comedy. He's made an appearance in lead and cameo roles in additional than 20 movies since 2002 having a resume which includes "Soul Plane," ''Fools Gold," ''Little Fockers" and "Dying in a Funeral." What Is Steve Jobs' Hollywood Legacy?
At a Disney board meeting in 2007, CEO Robert Iger discussed a proposal for the company to add ships to its popular fleet by striking a licensing deal with an established cruise line. Steve Jobs objected, according to people familiar with the meeting, arguing that Disney should own its ships rather than outsource its brand on the high seas. The charismatic new board member was persuasive and, despite a $2 billion price tag, Disney ultimately added the Dream and, soon, the Fantasy to its fleet of owned-and-operated cruise ships.our editor recommendsAnalyst: Steve Jobs' CEO Departure Will Have 'No Impact' on AppleApple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak: Steve Jobs Resignation Wont Affect 'Quality of Company (Video)Apple Stock Dips, Company Loses $5.5 Billion Morning After Steve Jobs CEO Resignation That Jobs caused Disney to turn on a dime at such a hefty cost is a testament to his influence, which stretches far beyond Apple, the company he founded in 1976, to encompass Disney, Pixar and the entire entertainment sphere. Jobs is so omnipresent in Hollywood that when he resigned his Apple CEO spot on Aug. 24 because of health problems associated with pancreatic cancer, the move reverberated throughout the industry. Insiders now wonder whether Jobs will continue his board duties at Disney and how his condition will impact his status as showbiz's top digital power broker. The ramifications of his next moves on Hollywood likely will be significant. Disney and Pixar For three of the past four fiscal years, Jobs has been absent from more than 75 percent of Disney board meetings. The company declined to discuss the matter, but Jobs' condition was important enough for shareholder advisory firm Glass Lewis & Co. to recommend in March that he not be re-elected to Disney's board. "I have to assume that he hasn't put much energy into Disney," a former insider tells The Hollywood Reporter. Yet shareholders re-elected their most famous director, probably because they understood his value to the company as counselor and sounding board for Iger and other top executives on key issues. Jobs assumed that role when he was CEO of Pixar, even before joining Disney's board. In 2006, Iger, CEO of Disney for just a year, wanted to arrange a new distribution deal with Pixar, which, beginning with 1995's Toy Story, had revolutionized the animation business. With Jobs steering negotiations for Pixar, Disney ended up paying $7.4 billion in stock to purchase the company outright. Jobs "was able to call all the shots," says the insider, selling Pixar at its peak price and gaining by far the largest individual stake in Disney. Meanwhile, Disney also won, able to promote the big score by landing Pixar. The transaction gave Jobs what is now a 7.3 percent stake in Disney and his seat on the 13-member board, which also includes Iger and former CEOs Orin Smith of Starbucks and John Pepper of Procter & Gamble. In addition to steering the cruise ship initiative, sources say Jobs soon helped persuade Iger to buy back many of the 335 North American Disney Stores that the company had sold just four years earlier. Jobs helped spearhead a redesign of those outlets using some of the same people who designed Apple Stores, and a prototype debuted a year ago in Montebello, Calif. With Jobs, Iger has a trusted adviser. Says the insider, "Bureaucracy was trumped if Steve communicated to Bob an opinion." Still, another person with close ties to Disney says Jobs is careful not to overstep his authority at the company. "I never saw him being the least bit intrusive. It was always the cheerleader, never 'do this' or 'do that.' " Would Disney act differently without Jobs? "Losing a sounding board of that level -- that's a loss," says a source who knows Iger and Jobs. However, "in terms of real day-to-day influence on what Disney does, I don't think so." Still, without Jobs, animation guru John Lasseter would lose an ally at a critical time -- coming off the relatively disappointing performance of Cars 2. "The bureaucracy doesn't like how much Pixar films cost," says an insider. "But no one will mess with Lasseter while Jobs is around." PHOTOS: Super Bowl's Most Iconic Commercials iTunes Outside of Disney, the most obvious example of Jobs' influence over media distribution is the creation in 2003 of the iTunes Music Store, which wouldn't have garnered the support of the record labels without Jobs. "The shift came about above all because of the sheer willpower of Steve," former RIAA head Hilary Rosen told the authors of iCon Steve Jobs: The Greatest Second Act in the History of Business. "His sheer charisma and his intensity absolutely made a difference." Jobs' vision has permeated every facet of Apple, taking its stock past $400 from less than $100 at the beginning of 2009. So while Apple's share price has held fairly steady since the Aug. 24 announcement that Tim Cook has taken over as CEO, it would be unfair to expect Cook to match Jobs' influence as online music services such as Spotify and Pandora emerge to take on iTunes. Still, Cook is a force, which is why he served as temporary CEO three times during Jobs' health-related absences and why Apple dealt him a $383 million stock bonus to retain his services for the next nine years. And observers say it's no coincidence that Cook's first big move as CEO was to promote Eddy Cue, the executive in charge of the iTunes Store, to senior vp Internet software and services. Cue has served as Jobs' point man with the studios and record labels, so the move is seen as a sign that Cook is shoring up his relative inexperience in content deals and intends to stay the course with Hollywood. "Promoting Cue sends a message to both Apple's media partners and competitors that even without Jobs at the top, Apple's disruption of media industries and sharing of profits with its partners will continue," Wired wrote. There's also every indication that Cook and Cue, like Jobs, are forward-thinking risk-takers in the research and development department. PHOTOS: 9 Highest Paid Entertainment CEOs Ultraviolet Jobs' lessened duties could also impact UltraViolet, the digital rights management system called key to Hollywood's transition online. UltraViolet will roll out soon backed by 70 companies, including Microsoft, Comcast, Sony, Netflix and most studios. Conspicuously absent are Apple and Disney, which could partner on their own DRM system. That's no small matter, because UltraViolet is heralded by some as a home-video savior in an age of plummeting DVD sales. The technology will allow consumers to safely create digital lockers for storing their movies on an Internet service provider's server -- the "cloud" -- giving them access to content on myriad devices. "Apple and Disney are the two big holdouts, so we will see if there is any shift by Disney in the future," says Wedbush Securities analyst Scott Sutherland, who believes the Disney-Apple ties could weaken without Jobs as a conduit. Meanwhile, Apple is gearing up for the public debut of its iCloud, a service that stores music and other media for playing on iPads, iPods and iPhones. Missing are movies and TV shows, and Jobs reportedly has been taking the lead in remedying that situation through studio negotiations. The status of those talks is unclear. "For Hollywood, Steve has been enormously tough in negotiations," says David Wertheimer, CEO of the Entertainment Technology Center at USC. "Having Steve out of the [picture] may work to the industry's advantage." Apple TV Where Jobs' instincts might be missed most, though, is in the development of Apple TV, a little-used but exceptionally convenient device for putting iTunes content -- along with video from Netflix, YouTube, etc. -- on TV screens. "Apple TV has been through several iterations, and for it to really explode, it needs to figure out TV," says Jimmy Schaeffler, a senior analyst at the Carmel Group. "Jobs is a friggin' genius. Without him, it will be much harder to figure out." Jobs will now serve as chairman of the Apple board, a new position, signaling his intention to remain a figurehead and mentor. But given his declining health, the leadership and drive that has helped redefine Hollywood for the digital age certainly will be diminished. Says Schaeffler, "For some people -- especially Apple techie types -- if Steve Jobs were a religious figure, he'd be up for beatification quicker than Pope John Paul II." -- Kim Masters and Carolyn Giardina contributed to this report.
